The relationship between the Argentine sensation and the Catalan club has broken down this summer but a presidential candidate wants to do a tribute to their club star.

Barcelona’s presidential candidate Emily Rousaud has promised to hold a referendum to rename the club’s stadium after Lionel Messi.

The Catalan team will elect a new president in January to replace Josep Mario Bartomeu, who resigned from his post along with the board – including Rousant – who also resigned.

“We will hold a referendum to change the name of the stadium from Camp Nou to Leo Messi,” he told reporters.

Rousaud has promised to transfer even more stars to the Blaugrana squad if he is selected, while promising to bring back Paris Saint-Germain star Neymar.

“We will sign two top players, one of them Neymar,” he added. “We are working to bring him back to Barcelona if he withdraws the lawsuit he filed against the club.”

“We hope to make it official soon and another big name. We will not be indifferent. We will talk directly to these players.”
