Chelsea has secured a place in the 1/8 finals of the Champions League after beating Rennes 1-2. This victory was enough for the London Blues to advance to the next stage of the Champions League. The only thing that will be discussed is whether it will pass to this stage from the first place or from the second place, since Sevilla has also scored a victory.
Rennes-Chelsea 1-2
Chelsea have advanced to the next stage of the Champions League after a goal by Calum Hudson-Odoi in the 21st minute. The first half Chelsea was a much better team than Rennes and this was seen in the cases they created. Werner had his first good chance to score, but failed to score from a distance. After Odoi’s goal, Rennes played better and managed to equalize the score in the 85th minute through Giarassy. But Chelsea reacted and Olivier Giroud scored in the first extra minute to earn three points and qualify for the Champions League. With this victory, Chelsea has collected 10 points and is in first place, as Sevilla drew 1-1 against Krassnobar thus postponing the celebration of the group’s passage.
Sevilla-Krassnobar 1-2
Sevilla has further qualified for the Champions League because it has won in Russia against Krassnobar. The match started much better for the guests where Rakitic scored in the 4th minute of the match. After conceding the goal Krassnobar continued with attacks towards the gate of the Spaniards and in the second half equalized the score through Wanderson in the 56th minute. Sevilla tried to take the lead and achieved this after scoring in the fifth extra minute of the match where El Haddadi scored. The first place in Group E will be a fight between Sevilla and Chelsea, where this can happen to be decided in the next match that will take place in Seville next week.
