Napoli coach Gennaro Gattuso believes Zlatan Ibrahimovic is a better player now than he was 10 or 12 years ago, after another stunning appearance the Swedish striker made in Serie A for Milan on Sunday.
Ibrahimovic scored two goals in Milan’s 3: 1 victory against Napoli, thanks to which the Red and Blacks are at the top of the rankings.
The 39-year-old became the oldest player to score 10 goals in his first eight Serie A games, breaking Lazio Silvio Piola’s record from the 1942/43 season.
Gattuso – who played alongside Ibrahimovic in Milan from 2010 to 2012, helping the Reds win their last Serie A title in 2011 – has elevated the Swede.
“Milan strongly believes in Ibra. They believe 100% in what they are doing,” said Gattuso.
“It seems to me that Ibrahimovic is stronger now than he was 10 or 12 years ago.” he added.
“They were shooting balls in the area because they knew he would catch them. What we did was create many cases but did not fully believe in them.” he added.
