Liverpool defeated Ajax 1-0 to advance to the 1/8 finals of the Champions League. Jurgen Klopp’s team had possession and chances throughout this match. The first half ended 0-0. In the second half Liverpool attacked again and the goal came at the beginning of the first half. It was Curtis Jones who scored in the 58th minute after deflecting the cross ball to Williams. This goal turned out to be the winning goal for Liverpool that elevated them to the quota of 12 points, 4 more than Atalanta in second place and 5 more than Ajax in third place. This makes Liverpool qualify as the first team from Group D.

Atalanta did not manage to score a victory tonight in Bergamo against the Danish team of FC Midjytelland. Even the visiting team were the first to take the lead by scoring a beautiful goal in the 13th minute with Scholz. Atalanta did not manage to equalize the score until the 79th minute and this was achieved through Romero. This draw makes Atalanta have two results in hand against Ajax in the last match it will play in Amsterdam. Gasperin’s team needs a draw or a win to move among the top 16 teams in the Champions League in this match. If it loses, Ajax passes to the 1/8 of the final.
