Paris Saint-Germain star Neymar has said he wants to play alongside his former Barcelona team-mate Lionel Messi from next season.
Neymar and Messi played together for Barcelona for four seasons between 2013 and 2017, creating a scary offensive line for the Catalans.
Alongside Luis Suarez, Neymar and Messi helped Barcelona win La Liga twice and the Champions League once, including three trophies in the Copa del Rey.
Neymar left Barcelona in the summer of 2017 and joined PSG for an amount that to this day is a world record, 222 million euros.
The Brazilian has often been told he will return to Barcelona and he has been really close to returning on several occasions.
Meanwhile, even Messi’s future with Barca is uncertain, as the Argentine asked to leave in the summer after a depressing and disappointing season.
Messi will end his contract with the Catalans in the summer of 2021, which means that the 33-year-old has the right to talk to other clubs from January and leave in the summer for free.
So it is not clear where Neymar and Messi could reunite, but the former insisted after PSG’s 3-1 win over Manchester United on Wednesday night that he wants to play alongside Messi.
“What I want most is to enjoy the game playing alongside him again,” said Neymar, after scoring two goals against United in the Champions League.
Asked where their reunion would take place, Neymar said with a smile: “He can play my role, I would not have a problem.”
He added: “We have to do this from next year, of course.”
