Milan coach Stefano Pioli insists Milan have proved they are contenders for the Serie A title, despite being beaten 3-1 by Juventus on Wednesday.
The Italian champions interrupted Milan’s 27-match unbeaten run in the league, as this was the first defeat for the Red and Blacks since March 8, 2020.
Despite being defeated, Milan continues to be the leader in the Serie A table, because Inter failed to use the opportunity to take the lead by losing 2: 1 yesterday’s duel with Sampdoria.
“We have to take the hat off to our opponent today.” said Pioli.
“We did what we had to do, we created chances and inevitably let the opponent create, but since we only found him at a disadvantage for the second time, it was difficult to get back in the game.” he added.
Milan missed Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Ismael Bennacer, Sandro Tonali, Alexis Saelemaekers and Matteo Gabbia due to injuries, as well as Ante Rebic and Rade Krunic due to infection.
Asked by Sky Sports analyst Fabio Cabello if Milan are contenders for the title, Pioli said: “I am also convinced that we have to be ambitious. We have to leave tonight believing that we can fight to the end.”
