Wayne Rooney revealed that his Manchester United team-mates were surprised when Sir Alex Ferguson announced his tactics for the 2009 Champions League final against Barcelona.

Then in Rome, United played the final with Barcelona, ??which had Samuel Eto’o, Thierry Henry and Lionel Messi on attack, while Pep Guardiola was sitting on the bench.

Ferguson decided to attack Barcelona because he considered defense as its weak point. In the end, the Spanish team won 2: 0.

“When we reached the final, he told us: ‘We are Manchester United and we will not defend in the Champions League final. We will go and attack them and do it the right way. We sat down and thought, ‘Oh, shit.’ “Ferguson talked about their attack, and you see in their team names like Messi, Eto’o, Henry,” said Rooney.

In that final, Barcelona took a 1-0 lead through Eto’o in the 10th minute, and Messi in the 70th minute sealed the score 2: 0.
